Consider a resolution approving the City of Keller’s cost participation in the replacement of components 1 and 2 of the Motorola upgrade to the NETCO Motorola P25 Trunked Radio Communication System and authorizing payment to the City of Bedford.
Background:
The City of Keller is a member of the North East Tarrant County (NETCO) Radio Consortium, a six-city public safety radio network. The NETCO system, originally launched in 1993, is jointly operated under an interlocal agreement. The system was last upgraded to APCO P25 standards in 2013 and is now due for a multi-phase upgrade due to platform changes required by Motorola.
NETCO's Technical Committee recommends the replacement of components 1 and 2 of the Motorola P25 Trunked Radio Communication System, which are no longer supported. These upgrades are essential to maintain compatibility, reliability, and ongoing Motorola support.
Financial Impact:
The City of Keller’s portion of the cost for components 1 and 2 is $137,363.84, which is funded through the FY 2024-25 CCPD budget. The City of Bedford, as the original purchasing entity, will manage the procurement and payments on behalf of the NETCO member cities.
Alternatives:
City Council has the following alternatives:
- Approve as submitted
- Approve with changes
- Denial
Council Action:
Staff recommends approval of a resolution authorizing payment to the City of Bedford for Keller’s cost share in the NETCO radio system upgrade.
