Body

Action Requested:

Consider a resolution approving the purchase of hand-held radios for the Police Department in the amount of $224,274.79.

Background:

The Police Department is proposing to replace part of our aging radio fleet, which are no longer certified to be intrinsically safe, are nearing end of service life, and will not be serviced by Motorola. Batteries are also not available for purchase any longer.

Staff met with Motorola to discuss the radio replacement and ensure immediate replacement was required. Motorola confirmed the need for replacement and recommended a newer radio model that would allow for a longer useful life, 15 years.

Financial Impact:

The cost of radio replacement is $224,274.79. The KCCPD budget includes $225,000 this year for this project.

Citizen Input/Board Review:

The KCCPD Board approved this radio replacement project as part of their budget at their 6/21/23 Board Meeting and City Council approved the CCPD budget on 7/18/2023.
