Action Requested:

Consider a resolution approving the purchase of the Trimble/Allterra Total Station - 3D Scanner/Printer through the Texas Department of Information Resources.

Background:

The Trimble/Allterra Total Station - 3D Scanner/Printer is a vital tool for the Traffic Unit and Criminal Investigations personnel. The current total station is well passed its lifespan and has not been functional during the last several fatal traffic accident scenes. This 3D Scanner will replace the current total station that is inoperable. This 3D Scanner will assist in the documentation and reconstruction of serious bodily injury and fatal collisions, as well as any other crime scene that requires scanning. This 3D Scanner is the most effective method to quickly and efficiently document all relevant evidence at a crash scene while reducing the time required for road closures by up to 50%. The Trimble 3D Total Station will give the police department the equipment needed to recreate, analyze, and visualize crime scenes that are investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division and Traffic Unit.

Financial Impact:

The cost of the Trimble/Allterra Total Station - 3D Scanner/Printer is $62,516.23 to be paid in full. This is not a recurring purchase but will require updating software in the future. The KCCPD budget includes $62,516.23 this year for this piece of equipment.
