Consider a resolution approving the purchase of two (2) replacement emergency generators and installation services from Fort Worth Electric of Fort Worth, Texas for Fire Stations 2 and 3, through the interlocal agreement with the Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD), and authorizing the City Manager to execute all related purchase documents on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas.
Action Requested:
Consider a resolution approving the purchase of two (2) replacement emergency generators and installation services from Fort Worth Electric of Fort Worth, Texas for Fire Stations 2 and 3 through the interlocal agreement with Tarrant Regional Water District in the amount of $270,000.00.
Background:
The requested replacement emergency generators will be located at Fire Stations 2 and 3 for power during an emergency/outage. The generator replacements were planned as a part of the City’s Facility Capital Replacement Program, but the February 2021 winter weather event adjusted the scope for replacement to cover the entire station and change from diesel powered to natural gas. The 28 year old existing units were originally sized to only power the living quarters and bay doors which leaves the bays susceptible to extreme temperatures.
Staff worked with Fort Worth Electric to determine the appropriate generator size and installation requirements and determined the proposed generators to be the best option. However, supply chain issues will cause delivery of the generators to the company to occur between 52 and 64 weeks. After the company takes delivery, they will begin the engineering requirements for installation. As such, it is assumed the generators will not be installed until early FY 2023-24.
Financial Impact:
Funds for this replacement will be included in the FY 2023-24 Facility Capital Replacement Fund. If delivery occurs earlier than anticipated, a budget amendment may be required during FY 2022-23 for the expenditure.
