Action Requested:

Approve a payment to Select Excavation, LLC of McKinney, Texas for the temporary emergency drainage repair along the Highland Oaks Crossing Channel in the amount of $219,995.72.

Background:

Earlier this year, staff was notified of a structural issue with a gabion basket wall along the Highland Oaks Crossing Channel, which is located between Rufe Snow Drive and North Tarrant Parkway.  The City Council approved a design contract with Lockwood, Andrews and Newnam, Inc. at the March 19, 2024 meeting for both temporary repairs and permanent repairs.  The temporary repairs have concluded while options are being considered for permanent repairs.

The original improvements to this section of the channel in 2010 included grading to improve water flow and a pond that included the gabion basket walls. These improvements significantly increased the water quality and wildlife habitat.

Financial Impact:

Funds are budgeted in the Drainage System Capital Improvements Project Fund with funding provided by the General Fund.
