Title

Consider an ordinance amending the City of Keller Code of Ordinances by amending Chapter 18, Traffic, Article II, Speed Limits, by deleting Section 18-210, School Zone Speed Provisions in its entirety, and adding a new Section 18-210; providing a penalty; providing a severability clause; authorizing publication; and establishing an effective date.

Body

Action Requested:

Consider an amendment to Section 18-210 of Code of Ordinances to reflect the 2021-22 school time changes for Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, to modify the school zone speed restriction times accordingly and to do general cleanup of this code section.

Background:

The Municipal Code contains references for each school zone in the city by stating a specific start and end time.  Schools adjust their schedule as needed to respond the continuously changing needs of the student population.  One such change is for Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton changed their start time to 8:45 a.m. and release time to 3:30 p.m. These times now fall outside of the flashing beacon times of 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 2:45-3:45 p.m. As a result, a modification of the Municipal Code is necessary to accurately reflect these new times and to allow for proper enforcement of these restricted speeds.

Additionally, there is a reference to “S Keller Intermediate School” in the code which is now the Indian Springs Middle School.  As a result, this reference will be removed from the code as it is no longer required.
