Consider a resolution approving the proposal from AXON Enterprises for the purchase of mobile digital video recording systems, body worn cameras, software, and support equipment through the BuyBoard Contract 648-21 and authorizing the City Manager to execute all purchase documents relating thereto on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas.
Action Requested:
Consider a resolution approving the purchase of Mobile Digital Video recording system, Body Worn Cameras, software, and support equipment through BuyBoard Contract 648-21.
Background:
The AXON mobile digital video recording systems, body worn cameras, software, and support equipment will replace our current Watchguard platform. Motorola solutions bought out Watchguard, who no longer supports or maintains the current version of Keller Police Department’s body worn cameras and in-car video software and hardware.
AXON provides additional interoperability and connectivity with our current TASERs and soon to be FLOCK ALPR system. AXON also provides a needed 3rd party digital storage solution, evidence.com, as well as video support for the playback of proprietary video systems. This will increase our capability to retrieve and share digital evidence with partnering agencies.
Financial Impact:
The cost of the Mobile Digital Video recording system is $223,930 to be paid in 5 yearly payments of $44,786. The Body Worn Camera system is $850,757 to be paid in 5 yearly payments of $170,145. The KCCPD budget includes $230,000 this year for this project.
Citizen Input/Board Review:
The KCCPD Board approved the Mobile Digital recording system and the Body Worn Camera system replacement project as part of their budget at their 6/21/23 Board Meeting and City Council approved the CCPD budget on 7/18/2023.
Alternatives:
City Council has the following alternatives:
- Approve as submitted
- Approve with changes
- Denial
Council Action:
Staff recommends approval of the proposed resolution as presented.
