Body

Action Requested:

Approve the construction bid from Apple Pavement Services, of Dallas, Texas; for the Shady Grove Road Reconstruction Project for the Public Works Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all documents relating thereto on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas.

Background:

Improvements to Shady Grove Road were initially planned to include additional lanes adjacent to the Shady Grove Elementary School, intersection improvements at the Sarah Brooks intersection and the Keller Smithfield intersection, plus drainage and utility upgrades. Due to rapidly rising construction costs, staff revised the project scope to include only pavement reconstruction from Smithfield Road to Rapp Road and sidewalk/trail improvements. The current project includes reconstruction of the existing pavement width and a trail from Willow Glen Court to Sarah Brooks Drive.

Eight (8) qualifying bids were received at Keller Town Hall on April 5, 2023 for this project. A bid summary is included showing the range of bid amounts. City staff has, with the assistance of an engineering consultant, reviewed the low bidder’s qualifications, bonding capacity and references and recommends Apple Pavement Services of Dallas, Texas be awarded the bid in the amount of $1,274,068.10 with construction to be completed within 180 calendar days.

Financial Impact:

Funding is included in the Street System Capital Improvements Project Fund with funding provided by the General Fund and the Keller Development Corporation Capital Improvement Project Fund.
