Consider an ordinance amending the City of Keller Code of Ordinances Chapter 10, Miscellaneous Provisions by amending Article IX - Sex Offender Residency Restrictions, Section 10-1460 - Appeals; by naming the Chief of Police as the approval or denial authority of said appeals; providing a repealing clause; providing a penalty; providing a severability clause; and establishing an effective date.
Background:
On October 19, 2021, the City Council approved Ordinance No. 2038 enacting a Sex Offender Ordinance prohibiting certain registered sex offenders from residing within a certain distance where children commonly gather. This proposed ordinance would amend the appeals process for the Sex Offender Residency Restrictions by naming the Chief of Police as the authority to approve or deny appeals to said restrictions.
