Action Requested:

Approve a Professional Services Agreement with Dunaway, of Farmersville, Texas in an amount not to exceed $325,000.

Background:

With the evolving needs of the city, the Public Works Department is adjusting how construction inspections are performed.  In the new fiscal year, a current construction inspector is transitioning to a traffic operations technician.  To fill that inspection need, staff requested a proposal from Dunaway construction inspections.  Dunaway has provided these services several times in the last year on short-term contracts.  They have also provided right of way inspections covering franchise utility installations over the last several years on an annual basis.  This proposal will combine the two inspection services for the next fiscal year with the option to renew on an annual basis not to exceed five years.

The construction inspector’s responsibilities include inspecting and documenting the installation of public infrastructure on City and development projects, conducting weekly erosion control inspections on all active construction sites, inspecting sanitary sewer and water connections, drive approaches and sidewalk installations, performing drainage and grading inspections on new residential construction and monitoring franchise utility installations to ensure damages are repaired restoration is completed. These inspections are critical to ensuring that City standards and specifications are met.
