Body

Action Requested:

Consider a resolution approving an agreement for Artist Services and Original Artwork with Amy Brines and Jimmy Joe Jenkins of Fort Worth, Texas, relating to the City of Keller Sports Park Murals in an amount not to exceed $27,400.

Background:

The Keller Public Arts Master Plan, updated in 2022, identified the Keller Sports Park as a potential public art site. In 2024 City Council directed staff to coordinate a call for artists for the selection of murals for the Keller Sports Park, according to the guidelines set forth in the Keller Public Arts Policy (also updated in 2016).

The Board initiated a call for artists to submit proposals for the design of eight (8) murals with the theme sports nostalgia to enhance and support the aesthetics of the Keller Sports Park.

Thirty Five (35) artists submitted proposals, which were reviewed by a subcommittee of members of the Public Arts Board and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board in May 2025. The selected artist is the team Jenkins-Brines, composed of Amy Brines and Jimmy Joe Jenkins of Fort Worth, Texas, and come with an extensive resume.

The murals will each be approximately 89 square feet and feature sports nostalgia themed images. Following City Council approval of the Agreement for Artist Services and Original Artwork, staff will work with a vendor to incorporate the designs into murals through the use of brick wrap.

Financial Impact:

The cost of the mural design is $27,400. Funding is available in the Keller Development Foundation Fund, and it in the Keller Sports Park Renovation Project Budget.

Citizen Input/Board Review:
