Title
Consider a Resolution Nominating a Candidate to Fill a Vacancy on the Tarrant Appraisal District Board of Directors.
Background:
On November 10, 2025, the Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD) notified taxing entities of a vacancy on its Board of Directors following the immediate resignation of Board Member Alan Blaylock. Mr. Blaylock submitted a formal resignation stating he could no longer give the position the full attention it deserves due to increased demands on his time. TAD distributed an official vacancy notification letter the same day, which also cited the applicable provisions of the Texas Property Tax Code governing the nomination process.
Under Texas Property Tax Code § 6.0301(f), when a vacancy occurs in an appointive position on the TAD Board of Directors, each taxing unit entitled to vote under § 6.03 may nominate one candidate by resolution of its governing body. Nominations must be submitted to the Chief Appraiser within 45 days of the vacancy notice.
TAD’s letter established the nomination deadline as December 26, 2025, due to the original deadline falling on a holiday weekend and pursuant to Section 1.06 of the Tax Code adjusting deadlines that fall on weekends or holidays.
The individual ultimately selected by the TAD Board will serve the remainder of the unexpired term ending December 31, 2027.
Action Requested:
Staff requests City Council consideration of a resolution nominating one individual to fill the vacancy on the Tarrant Appraisal District Board of Directors. If approved, staff will transmit the signed resolution to the TAD Chief Appraiser in accordance with statutory requirements.
