Title

Consider a resolution with Motorola Solutions Inc. for the purchase of Fire Department radios through the Houston-Galveston (H-GAC) Cooperative Purchasing Program, and authorizing the City Manager to execute all purchase documents relating thereto on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas.

Body

Action Requested:

Consider a resolution approving the purchase of hand-held radios for the Fire Department in the amount of $324,617.66.

Background:

The Fire Department is proposing to replace their current hand-held radios which are no longer certified to be intrinsically safe, have reached their end of life, and will not be serviced by Motorola. Batteries are also not available for purchase any longer.

Staff met with Motorola to discuss the radio replacement and ensure immediate replacement was required.  Motorola confirmed the need for replacement and recommended a newer radio model that would allow for a longer useful life.  The purchase will provide all new intrinsically safe radios with a useful life of 15 years.  The purchase price is $324,617.66 and is through H-GAC. Delivery of the radios is anticipated by the end of the fiscal year.

Financial Impact:

The cost of radio replacement is $324,617.66 and a budget amendment will be required later in the fiscal year for the purchase.
