Action Requested:

Consider a resolution approving the purchase of a replacement playground structure, from The Playground, Shade and Surfacing Depot, LLC., of Keller, Texas, in the amount of $149,417.00, through the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) BuyBoard Cooperative Purchasing Program.

Background:

The existing playground at the Parks at Town Center was installed in 2005, and is reaching the end of its useful life expectancy. Staff has conducted a review of all twelve playground structures within the Parks System, and determined that this playground is in the most need of replacement.

The Playground, Shade and Surfacing Depot, LLC., of Keller, Texas, has a reputation as a quality playground installer, and the Parks and Recreation Department, as well as The Keller Pointe, have utilized their services multiple times in the past.

Financial Impact:

The replacement playground structure, in the amount of $149,417.00 shall be paid from the Parks Capital Improvement Project Fund with funding from the adopted FY 2022-23 Keller Development Corporation Budget.

Citizen Input/Board Review:

The Parks and Recreation Department presented three options for a replacement playground to the public through an on-line survey. We received almost 2,500 responses, and the option we recommend purchasing received over 77% of the votes. The Parks and Recreation Board unanimously approved the recommendation to purchase this playground structure to replace the existing playground at the Parks at Town Center at their August 10, 2023 meeting.
