Title

Consider a resolution approving the purchase and installation of a replacement playground structure for Bear Creek Park, from Total Recreation Products, Inc. of Cypress, Texas, through the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) BuyBoard Cooperative Purchasing Program, for the Parks and Recreation Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all purchase documents relating thereto on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas.

Body

Action Requested:

Consider a resolution approving the purchase of a replacement playground structure, from Total Recreation Products, Inc., of Cypress, Texas, in the amount of $96,398.24, through the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) BuyBoard Cooperative Purchasing Program.

Background:

The “bridge” playground at Bear Creek Park was installed in its current location in 2007. Prior to this, it served as the playground for the Keller Smithfield Activity Node, where it was originally installed in the mid to late 1990s.

Staff has conducted a review of all eleven playground structures within the Parks System, and determined that this bridge is in the most need of replacement. Staff applied for Matching Grant Funds with the playground manufacturer GameTime, and we have been awarded a grant in the amount of $27,698.64 towards the purchase and installation of a new playground.

Financial Impact:

The replacement playground structure, in the amount of $180,000.00 shall be paid from the Parks Capital Improvement Project Fund with funding from the adopted FY 2019-20 Keller Development Corporation Budget.

Citizen Input/Board Review:

The Parks and Recreation Board unanimously approved the recommendation to purchase this playground structure to replace the “bridge” playground at Bear Creek Park at their September 12, 2019 meeting.
