Title
Consider a resolution approving an Agreement for Professional Services with Kleinfelder, of Irving, Texas; for the purpose of providing engineering design services relating to the maintenance and rehabilitation of the Keller-Smithfield Elevated Storage Tank; for the Public Works Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all contract documents relating thereto on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas.
Action Requested:
Approve a professional services agreement with Kleinfelder of Irving, Texas to provide professional engineering services in the amount of $290,000.00 for the Keller-Smithfield Elevated Storage Tank.
Background:
The City’s Capital Improvements Program (CIP) includes rehabilitation improvements to the city’s five water storage tanks. The Keller-Smithfield Elevated Storage Tank was built in 2006 and still has its original coating. Like all infrastructure, regular maintenance and rehabilitation measures of the tanks are necessary to extend the service life. Because the tank must be taken out of service for the rehabilitation work, construction is scheduled for this fall and winter when water demand is the lowest.
In Spring 2021 Kleinfelder assessed each of the city’s five water storage tanks for the purpose of planning a program to rehabilitate each one. Upon completion of that effort, individual rehabilitation projects were started. The two Pearson Ground Storage Tanks are complete and the Whitley Elevated Storage Tank will be complete in early May. This contract is for preparing construction plans and specifications, bidding services, and includes construction phase assistance, including inspection and coordination with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Financial Impact:
Funding for this activity is included in the Water & Wastewater Capital Improvements Project Fund with funding provided by the Water & Wastewater Utility Fund. As unforeseen circumstances are encountered, which results in an overage of the project budget, further council action and budget amendments may be required.
