Consider a resolution calling a Special Election to fill the unexpired term for City Council Place 4 for the City of Keller, to be held on May 2, 2026, as set forth by the City Charter and Texas Election Code.
Background:
The proposed resolution orders a Special Election for the City of Keller to be held on May 2, 2026, for the purpose of filling the unexpired term for City Council Place 4, in accordance with the City Charter and the Texas Election Code. This Special Election will be conducted in conjunction with the May 2, 2026, general election for Mayor and City Council Places 5 and 6.
City Council Place 4 became vacant upon the submission of an application for a place on the ballot for mayor by the current Place 4 councilmember, which, pursuant to the City Charter, resulted in the immediate vacancy of the seat.
As part of the election process, the City Council will post the Notice of Candidate Filing Period concurrently with the Election Order. The Candidate Filing Period for a place on the ballot will begin on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will conclude at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Tarrant County Elections is preparing a standard Joint Election Agreement and Contract for Election Services for the May 2, 2026, Special Election. The election will utilize the County’s electronic voting equipment, which includes the Hart InterCivic Verity Voting System (Version 2.3.1), as approved by the Texas Secretary of State.
Financial Considerations:
The City’s cost for the May 2, 2026, Special Election will be included in Tarrant County’s Joint Election Agreement and Contract for Election Services and will be presented to the City Council later for consideration and approval.
Staff Recommendation:
Staff recommends approval of the proposed resolution ordering the May 2, 2026, Special Election.
