Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an Interlocal Agreement with Keller Independent School District, for the funding of two School Resource Officers, for the Keller Police Department.

Body

Background:

The City of Keller and Keller Independent School District have had an agreement for funding of School Resource Officers since 1993.  The agreement was suspended in 2010 when the school district made cuts to their budget to meet district goals and was reinstated for the 2012/2013 school year. Since, KISD has financially contributed to the staffing of one School Resource Officer at Keller High School.  Beginning with the 2017/2018 school year, KISD has elected to add a second School Resource Officer at the Keller Center for Advanced Learning.

Budget Impact:

There is zero budget impact as this agreement would not require the addition of sworn personnel.  Keller Independent school district will be contributing $126,000.00 for the staffing of one School Resource Officer at Keller High School and a second School Resource Officer at the Keller Center for Advanced Learning.

Financial

Considerations:

It is in the best interest of the community to engage in this Interlocal Agreement with the Keller Independent School District to further the policing philosophy and strategy in our community while working with the high school campuses to ensure an optimum learning environment for students.
