Consider a resolution approving the agreement for City Towing and Recovery Service with AA Wrecker Service of Haltom City, Texas, relating to non-consent police tows; and further authorizes the City Manager to execute said contract on behalf of the City of Keller.
Action Requested:
Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a Wrecker Service Contract for the City’s towing and recovery service, relating to non-consent police tows.
Background:
We recently sent out a request for proposal for the City’s towing and recovery service agreement, relating to non-consent police tows. This contract has no financial obligation to the City and the services are paid to the contractor directly by the owner/operator of the towed vehicle. The term of the contract will be for two (2) years with a city option to extend for two (2) one-year renewals. We solicit these proposals to select a contractor that can meet our law enforcement needs relating to vehicles towed from the roadways in our city (including Westlake) for public safety purposes. We require a vendor with the proper amount of equipment, a good reputation in the business, a large enough staff to handle all types of emergencies and a price for services that is competitive to protect the citizens who are obligated to use the service. There are approximately 500 of these tows a year.
The current wrecker service contract is with AA Wrecker Service, of Haltom City, Texas, which has held the city’s towing and recovery service contract for the last 38 years. They have been in business for the last 65 years.
The current vendor, AA Wrecker Service, of Haltom City, Texas, was the only vendor that submitted a proposal.
Budget Impact:
None to the City. The owner/operator of the towed vehicle is responsible for the charges.
Council Action:
Based on the exceptional service provided by AA Wrecker for the past consecutive 38 years, their competitive and fair pricing structure, experience, size of operation, and the way they have operated a very ethical business, staff can find no reason to change vendors at this time. Our officers in the field report a good working relationship with the employees at AA Wrecker Service.
