Body

Background:

The proposed resolution is ordering the May 4, 2019 City of Keller General Election for City Council Place 3 and City Council Place 4.  As a part of the election process the City Council orders the election and traditionally this has been done prior to the candidate filing period (Wednesday, January 16, 2019 through Friday, February 15, 2019) for a place on the ballot.

Tarrant County Elections is preparing a standard Joint Election Agreement and Contract for Election Services to be utilized by all entities for the May 4, 2019 General Election, which includes the following information:

(1)                     All entities will share the County’s regular early voting locations. The main early voting location is at Tarrant County Elections Center, 2700 Premier Street, Fort Worth, Texas.  Keller Town Hall is included as one of Tarrant County’s early voting locations. All registered voters in the City of Keller will be able to vote at any Tarrant County early voting location.

(2)                     On Election Day the registered voters in the City of Keller will be eligible to vote at the City’s regular polling locations, which are Bear Creek Intermediate and Shady Grove Elementary.

(3)                     Tarrant County’s voting equipment includes the eScan and eSlate voting systems for said Election.

(4)                     Combined ballots in those polling places where jurisdictions overlap will be utilized to be voted on at each polling location for the May 4, 2019 General Election.

Financial Impact:

The City’s cost for the May 4, 2019 General Election will be included in Tarrant County’s Joint Election Agreement and Contract for Election Services and will be presented to the City Council at a later date for your approval.

Staff Recommendation:

Staff recommends approval of the proposed resolution ordering the May 4, 2019 General Election.  An amended resolution will be presented to the City Council for approval once the list of early voting locations has been finalized by Tarrant County.
