Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement with Insight Public Sector for the purchase, configuration, and installation of networking equipment, through the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) Cooperative Purchasing Program, for the Information Technology Department.
Action Requested:
Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an agreement with Insight Public Sector for the purchase, configuration, and installation of networking equipment, through the State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) Cooperative Purchasing Program, for the Information Technology Department.
Background:
The current core Cisco router/switch at town hall is over 12 years old. While it is still supported by Cisco, it has reached the end of its useful life. Network technology continues to advance and the current equipment is limiting the ability to use newer, more beneficial features. The equipment that is being replaced serves as the core internal router and switch for the entire city. Nearly all data that traverses the internal city network passes through this equipment on its way to other buildings or out to the internet.
The specific pieces of Cisco equipment in this proposal were chosen with future technology in mind. This equipment is anticipated to have a useful lifespan of at least 10 years.
Financial Impact:
The cost of new Cisco routing and switching equipment is $108,308.52. The cost of configuration and installation is $8,704.00. The total cost is $117,012.52.
Funding is available from the Fiscal Year 2018-19 Information Technology Fund.
