Title

Consider a resolution approving an Agreement for Professional Services with Kleinfelder of Irving, Texas, for the purpose of providing engineering design, relating to the maintenance and rehabilitation of the Pearson Ground Storage Tank #1 for the Public Works Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all contract documents relating thereto on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas.

Action Requested:

Consider a resolution approving a professional services agreement with Kleinfelder for the design of the maintenance and rehabilitation of the Pearson Ground Storage Tank #1 in the amount of $162,670.

Background:

The City’s Capital Improvements Program (CIP) includes rehabilitation improvements to the city’s five water storage tanks.  The Pearson Ground Storage Tank #1 is the oldest of the five tanks, built in 1989 and last re-painted in 2004.  Like all infrastructure, regular maintenance and rehabilitation measures of the tanks are necessary to extend their service life and should be done every 5-8 years.

In April of 2018 staff received forty eight statements of qualifications from engineering firms in response to the City’s general request for qualifications (RFQ).  After extensive review of each submittal of those firms with water storage tank rehabilitation experience, staff determined that Kleinfelder was the most qualified for this project.  Staff then negotiated a proposal for design and construction services. A more refined construction project cost will be determined as part of this work.  The scope of the professional services agreement includes a tank condition assessment, a tank evaluation report, design of rehabilitation measures, preparation of construction documents and construction observation.

Financial Impact:

Funding for the evaluation is included in the Fiscal Year 2018-19 budget.
