Consider a resolution appointing members to serve on the Keller Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, as provided for in Section 823.005 of the Texas Health and Safety Code, and providing an effective date.

Background:                     

The proposed resolution is to appoint Dr. Susan Boeving DVM - Licensed Veterinarian, Southlake Crossing Animal Clinic, to the Keller Animal Shelter Advisory Committee. The Committee consists of at least one licensed veterinarian, one county or municipal official, one person whose duties include the daily operation of an animal shelter, and one representative from an animal welfare organization. Dr. Boeving’s appointment to the committee serves the interests of Regional Animal Control efforts as well as fulfilling the position of a licensed veterinarian on the Committee.  The current positions are:

Jarrod Greenwood - Municipal Official, Public Works Director, Town of Westlake
Michelle Watson - Animal Control Officer, City of Keller.
Vacant - Licensed Veterinarian
Nelda Corbell - Animal Welfare Organization, Humane Society of North Texas

Dr. Boeving’s experience in the area of animal care will assist in ensuring current practices and policies are aligned with applicable statutes surrounding the care and handling of animals.

 

Citizen Input/Board Review:                     

The Keller Animal Shelter Advisory Committee met on September 11, 2019 and recommends this appointment.

 

Legal Review:                       

The proposed appointments are in accordance with Section 823.005 of the Texas Health and Safety Code.

City Council has the following alternatives:

Staff recommends approval of the proposed resolution as presented.
