Title
Consider a resolution approving the purchase of one (1) Dodge Ram 4500 Heavy-Duty chassis and for the refurbishment and remounting of an existing ambulance module, for the Fire Department, through the Houston-Galveston (H-GAC) Cooperative Purchasing Program, and authorizing the City Manager to execute all purchase documents relating thereto on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas.
Action Requested:
Consider a resolution approving the purchase of one (1) Dodge Ram 4500 Heavy-Duty chassis and for the refurbishment and remounting of an existing ambulance module in the amount of $180,725 for the Fire Department.
Background:
The Fire Department is proposing the purchase of one (1) Dodge Heavy-Duty chassis and having an Ambulance Module removed from an existing unit to be refurbished and then remounted on the new chassis. The existing ambulance module will be removed from a Frazier ambulance currently mounted on a 2009 Ford chassis. The chassis will be returned to the city after the module is removed and then offered for sale through auction.
The purchase price of $180,725 for the chassis and ambulance module refurbishment/remounting is through H-GAC. The reuse of an existing ambulance module and use of H-GAC has been determined to be the lowest and most responsible method of purchasing.
The move to a Dodge chassis is based upon potential and experienced mechanical issues with the current model Ford chassis and the lack of similar issues associated with the Dodge chassis.
Financial Impact:
The cost of this project is $180,725. Funding is available for the full amount in the City of Keller Equipment Replacement Fund, as approved with the FY 2019-20 Adopted Budget.
It is estimated that the remount program will save approximately $95,000 to $105,000 per unit as compared to buying new. The 2009 Ford chassis will be returned to the city after the ambulance module is removed and will be offered for sale at auction.
