Consider a resolution approving the purchase and installation of a replacement Indoor Pool Slide, from SplashTacular Waterslides and Waterpark Attractions, of Paola, Kansas, for The Keller Pointe Recreation and Aquatic Center; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all purchase documents relating thereto on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas.
Action Requested:
Consider a resolution approving the purchase and installation of a replacement Indoor Pool Slide from SplashTacular Waterslides and Waterpark Attractions for $286,672.
Background:
During the Texas Municipal League annual inspection on May 21, 2019 some deficiencies were noted that required action on the indoor pool slide structure. The inspection noted that we provide Texas Municipal League a written plan of action to address the issues that included input from a slide manufacturer or structural engineer.
Working with SplashTacular Waterslides and Waterpark Attractions, the current slide manufacturer’s structural engineer, a plan of action was developed for the existing indoor pool slide and structure. The cost to repair the current structure is $255,921 and did not include replacing the slide flume. The cost to replace the structure, towers, stairs, and slide flume with new equipment is $286,672 and city staff and the slide manufacturer’s structural engineer determined it is in the best interest of The Keller Pointe staff and guests to replace everything.
SplashTacular Waterslides and Waterpark Attractions was able to provide this pricing because they were the engineer of record behind the current foundations. They have the ability to put a new steel tower, supports, and slide on the existing foundation since they did the original loading, calculation and engineered shop drawing with respect to those foundations. Another company would need to verify the calculations which would have added costs for third party engineering and surveys.
SplashTacular Waterslides and Waterpark Attractions provided six references that all spoke very highly of their work. Those locations include Hyatt Regency at Coconut Springs, FL; Squaw Peak Resort, Phoenix, AZ; VillaSport Athletic Club, San Jose, CA; City of Indianapolis, IN; and City of Keokuk, IA.
Financial Impact:
The replacement Indoor Pool Slide, in the amount of $287,000.00 shall be paid from the General Government Capital Improvement Project Fund with funding from the adopted FY 2019-20 Keller Pointe Budget.
