Body

Action Requested:

Consider a resolution canceling Contract No. 16-78 and approving a new Agreement for Professional Services with Thomas Hoover Engineering, LLC for engineering design services in the amount of $77,370.00.

Background:

Thomas Hoover Engineering was contracted to provide engineering design services for Sanitary Sewer Line protection and minor drainage improvements at 804 and 812 Barbara Lane.  The current Agreement for Professional Services (Contract No. 16-78), is for an amount of $46,400.00.  During easement negotiations with the property owners, the project scope grew to include additional drainage improvements and a hike and bike trail.  The trail is included in the Parks Department’s Hike and Bike Trail Master Plan.

The project was initiated to shore up areas around an existing sanitary sewer line along the drainage channel that have become eroded over the years.  During easement negotiations, the property owners expressed concerns with the existing drainage channel through their properties.  An agreement was reached that provided additional drainage improvements along the channel to reduce erosion at locations other than the sewer line crossings.  Public Works’ staff coordinated with Parks’ staff to include a section of hike and bike trail.  Including the trail in the project will remove the need for a separate project and reduce the inconvenience of additional construction.

This agreement will increase the total amount to $77,370.00

Financial Impact:

Funding is included in the Drainage System Capital Improvement fund with funding provided from the Drainage Utility Fund and Water-Wastewater Fund.
