Title
Consider a resolution approving an Agreement for Engineering Services with Dunaway & Associates of Fort Worth, Texas, to provide engineering services relating to the design of the Pate Orr sidewalk improvements project, for the Public Works Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all documents relating thereto on behalf of the City of Keller, Texas
Action Requested:
Consider a resolution approving an Agreement for Engineering Services with Dunaway Associates of Fort Worth, Texas; to design a sidewalk on Pate Orr from FM 1709 to Clover Lane for the Public Works Department in the amount of $77,150.00.
Background:
As a continuation of installing sidewalks near pedestrian activity centers, Pate Orr is the next portion of sidewalk that will connect the existing sidewalk system to Bear Creek Intermediate. This project was originally envisioned as part of last year’s sidewalk construction, but because of the drainage challenges was pushed to the next fiscal year to better address the complexities of the design.
In March 2019, the City entered into an agreement with Dunaway Associates to prepare an application to the Texas Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School call for projects and the supporting documents for eight locations. Ultimately, none of the locations were chosen and city staff and Dunaway Associates moved forward with the design of the Bear Creek Intermediate campus location, which included a route along Pate Orr, Clover Lane, India Street and Kate Court.
During construction of that project, City Council directed staff to install a sidewalk along the west side of Pate Orr, rather than alternating sides as was originally planned. There are significant drainage challenges to overcome and the scope of the proposed design agreement reflects that. It includes surveying, subsurface utility engineering, preparation of easement documents if necessary, design, drainage analysis, bid phase services and construction phase services.
